This custom kitchen was design by
architect Rick Corsini and used a
number of interesting materials.
First the cabinets faces were
laminated with a plastic resin used
in the manufacture of bearings.
Amber in color when delivered the
material developed a rich brown
patina when exposed to sun light.
The client also specified the use of a
paper stone product for the dining
table. The same material is used in
industrial labs and in all but
impervious to stains and heat.
Surface defects may be sanded and
the surface recondition with mineral
oil.
Another view of the table. This
piece weighed over 600 pounds
and required four people to install.
Also note the cantilevered shelves
which were installed without any
visible fasteners.
Attention to detail and very precise
execution were required to make
certain the commercial appliances
fir seamlessly. Liaising with the
architect and the equipment
supplier ensures that everything fit
properly.
Close-up shows the importance of
precision in modern design. All
gaps and spaces must align
perfectly or they the variance
becomes readily evident.
